Summer's Coming

We've been eating corn on the cob and watermelon and running the air-conditioner around the clock.

My kids only have three days of school left and things have been a bit crazy around here with end of the year concerts, field trips and celebrations. The next few days are more of the same. I've also been dealing with taking care of my home, my family and myself so I have been busy.

Tonight we finally made time to get out and work in our garden again. It has been about two weeks since we last made it over there. Thankfully the plants are mostly still alive.
Lightning bugs in a jar circa 2010
The lightning bugs have arrived. We saw them tonight as we watered our garden. Lightning bugs are one of my favorite things about summer. They are memories of summer nights as a kid. They make me feel all nostalgic. There's just something magical about them. I'm glad my boys live in a place where they can catch lightning bugs (or do you call them fireflies?).

I don't have any lightning bug pictures but here's a lady bug Monkey caught and brought to show me a couple of days ago. Specs loved holding it and letting it crawl with it's tickle-y feet on his little arm.

What do you love about summer?

Even though summer is my least favorite season (I hate heat and humidity!), I have to say I LOVE summer fruit. Is there anything that tastes better than a fresh peach? I made a fresh peach pound cake this morning (the yummy kind with a soaking syrup you pour over it) and it smells amazing. I hope it tastes half as good as it smells!

I'm right there with you. Heat and humidity? No thanks! Fresh peaches? Yes please!
I think I may have pinned that pound cake recipe awhile back. How was it? As good as it smelled? Better? :)
