Adventures in Art

"Amber Luster", 2003 by Dale Chihuly
Even though I probably should have stayed home and cleaned my house today, I just wanted to spend time with my family doing something that didn't involve folding socks or washing dishes. So, we made a spur of the moment trip to the art museum here in town. Within the last year or so they stopped charging admission so it was free cultural enlightenment. Win!
I was able to photograph this piece by Dale Chihuly in the rotunda but there is no photography allowed in the galleries (which I get, but which is kind of a shame since there is an awesome Audubon exhibit). Also noteworthy were some cool pieces by Bryan Collier (who illustrated one of our favorite picture books) and a lithograph of this famous portrait of Frederick Douglass.
Despite the conspicuous lack of a Seurat painting, I think my kids look like they belong in a scene from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". Do you like Specs's Mardi Gras beads turned pirate bandolier? Yeah. Me too.

On our way back to the car I gave Tank and Specs pennies to throw in the fountain. Tank wished for a hundred dollars under his pillow when he wakes up tomorrow (not happening). Specs wished that he could give me a hug. He's a charmer, that one.Wish granted.
It looked and felt like spring today. It was a little bit chilly. None of this weird 79 degree weather like we had yesterday. It does my heart good to see all the trees and flowers blooming everywhere.

How was your Saturday?

Thanks, Tanya. The storms didn't hit us too hard--some bad rain but I think they got hit north of us again. My husband was just in Birmingham helping with tornado clean-up two weeks ago and now they've had another. Makes me sad for them.
My boys are pretty goofy alright, but they make me smile.
Thanks for stopping by! :)
