This is a series I am doing for the month of October. If you are new, you can start HERE. |
Thoughts on Joy:
On
our journey to joy we will occasionally pass “service stations”. Stopping at these is a sure way to refuel
and recharge. They are also the most instantly gratifying ways to find
joy.
This evening I attended a service auction at church. We were able to earn points by doing things (everything from reading our scriptures to making our bed and flossing our teeth earned a certain number of points). Then we used our points to bid on goods and services that others had donated.“One of life’s sweetest returns is the privilege of rendering significant service of worth to others. To be able to do for fellow human beings something they could not do for themselves brings matchless satisfaction.” Russell M. Nelson, “Joy Cometh in the Morning”
It was such a fun activity and it got me really excited to serve (and to receive service) and got me thinking about different ways I can serve. I used my points to buy a meal (cooked and delivered) for my family and to arrange two voice lessons for Tank.
I donated homemade cards and a custom blog banner. I'm excited to make something special for the women who bid on my donations. I came home this evening feeling happy, uplifted and ready to get to work and do something wonderful. Service is such a great way to feel joy.
Today I Found Joy in My Journey:
--going on an impromptu leaf hunt with Specs.
--wearing a scarf this morning (silly, but I do love scarves and scarf-weather).
--preparing a delicious autumn picnic to enjoy with my family.
--checking out the fall flowers at the arboretum.
--finally getting out my Halloween decorations and making our house look a little festive for the upcoming holiday.
