The Light at the End of the Tunnel is Not an Oncoming Train

This is a series I am doing for the month of October. If you are new, you can start HERE.
Day 19

Thoughts on Joy:
Some days it is just hard to find joy. Today started out pretty good but it has gone kind of downhill from there. I got my hopes up over something and when it fell through this afternoon, my mood crashed too. I have been feeling pretty discouraged. Sometimes I feel stuck in a kind of limbo, like there is no escape and we will be in the same situation when we are 85 years old.

When I got the mail in yesterday there were three letters for my husband. Two of them were about student loans and one was about retirement. Does anyone else see the irony here? Oh, time to start thinking about paying off your student loans AND time to start thinking about retirement.

So, I came to my blog not knowing what on earth I was going to write about tonight and I saw this post that I drafted a week or so ago. When I opened it up to read it, I found just the reminder that I needed:
“Every one of us has times when we need to know things will get better. There is help. There is happiness. There really is light at the end of the tunnel. It is the Light of the World, the Bright and Morning Star, the 'light that is endless, that can never be darkened.' It is the very Son of God Himself.” Jeffrey R. Holland ("An High Priest of Good Things to Come")
So, there is good news after all.

Today I Found Joy in My Journey:
--when I was sad and Monkey came and sat by me and put his arms around me.
--being able to counsel with my husband and get his perspective.
--because I love autumn and today truly felt like autumn. There was a definite chill in the air and it was cool enough to make my cheeks feel rosy but my hands stayed warm. Perfect.
--making homemade tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner.

 What brought you joy today?

Sorry you've had some hard days. I've had my share this year, and I can totally relate to the despair of feeling stuck. Have you seen the Mormon Message made from the Elder Holland talk you referenced? I also love Elder Wirthlin's talk about "Sunday will come." Difficult days do pass! And there is hope for the future. Hang in there.
