Whistle While You Work

This is a series I am doing for the month of October. If you are new, you can start HERE.
Day 5

Thoughts on Joy:

“The busy bee has no time for sorrow.” ~William Blake
I got the blues thinking of the future, so I left off and made some marmalade.  It's amazing how it cheers one up to shred oranges and scrub the floor.  ~D.H. Lawrence
I don't really like marmalade, but the principle applies to strawberry freezer jam or apple butter just as easily.

Why am I often afraid of work? What makes it so hard for me to be motivated sometimes? Maybe the fact that I have four sons and a husband and much of what I do is undone all too soon contributes to my reluctance.

I am a person who craves affirmation. I long to know that what I do is of worth. That my efforts matter. That I am valued. Yet, when I stop to think about work, I realize that I don't really need accolades (although I always appreciate them).

Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. It's not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; it's when you've had everything to do, and you've done it.  ~Lord Acton
Most times honest, purposeful labor is it's own reward. I can feel a sense of worth, pride and accomplishment at a job well done. And at the end of  those long days, when I climb into bed bone-tired from a full day or work or service, I feel the most satisfaction. And joy.

Today I Found Joy in My Journey:
--Cleaning my bathroom.
--Making dinner for my family.
--Creating presents for new babies with my friend and having a great visit with her.
--Having a long heart-to-heart conversation with my brother's girlfriend on the phone.
--Watching my boys share their cookies and milk with each other.

 What brought you joy today?
