Be It Ever So Humble

In case you haven't heard, this happened:
Unlocking our front door for the first time.
That's right, folks. We are home-owners! We closed on our house a week and a half ago on a rainy Monday morning and started moving our things over to our new place right away. This is an in-town move so we've been able to do it piecemeal. We'll finish up with the last couple of big things--piano, china cabinet and a couple of others--on Saturday. The apartment has already been mostly cleaned so after we get those last couple of things out we'll hand over the keys and be done with that horrid, stinky, depressing, cramped hole forever. We won't miss it. Not even a little.

I am loving our new place. It feels right. It already feels like home and that makes me so happy. It isn't perfect and there are things that we are looking forward to changing, but it has character and potential. For now we are just so grateful to be here, surrounded by unpacked boxes and sleeping on mattresses on the floor. I'm thankful to have my own washer and dryer again. I'm thankful for a window over the kitchen sink. I'm thankful for a spacious kitchen, a dishwasher that actually works, a two car garage, a yard where my boys can play, a tree that they can climb and so many other things about our little home.

Here's the view from the street. I have a few ideas to increase curb appeal but those will probably have to happen a little way down the road. I'm sure I'll post more pictures as we get settled and make it our own.

The unpacking has gone a little slowly this week because I've been fighting a sore throat and cold all week, but I'm feeling quite a bit better, the weekend is almost here and I'm determined to get loads done.

It has been a long and difficult journey to get here (maybe I will share the whole story some time in the future) but it feels so good to have arrived at last. Home: there's no place like it.

It's so good to have the "home" feeling! Congrats for finding it... (and yes, now I'm insatiably curious about the "whole" story!) :)

I am so happy for all of you! I started to tear up when you said it already feels like home, seriously on of the best feelings. I can't wait to see more pictures of how you make your home beautiful. Good luck! Love you all!
