Back to School

The much anticipated (and stressed over) first day of school has arrived. We began the day at 5:45am. Stretch is attending an early morning seminary program before school this year to study the New Testament; he had to be there by 6:30. Then it was off to zero period (the hour before school officially starts) for jazz band.  He's in ninth grade this year. Wow. When did I get so old?

The other boys had a more leisurely morning with plenty of time for breakfast and some first-day-of-school pictures.

Monkey is starting sixth grade at the middle school. He had some first day jitters when the bus didn't arrive on schedule but I'm hoping the rest of the day goes smoothly for him.

Tank is at the elementary school by himself this year--third grade. He is eager and ready to have a great year.

Specs is beginning kindergarten this year. He has been my little shadow for the last couple of years and I'm afraid I'm going to feel a little lost without him. He was so ready though. No tears for him--he didn't even glance backwards when he got out of the car.

For the first time in my life as a mother, all my kids are in school (four different schools). I imagine the first week or two will be a little rough until we get back into a routine but I'm optimistic that we'll have a great year.

It's a little weird having the house be so quiet. I'm trying not to think about it too much. I'm hoping to keep myself busy with lots of reading and projects. Naps sound like a good idea too. This morning I'm going to catch up on housework and maybe make some cookies.

Here's to a great year!

A quiet house, is something I will not have for at least 6 years. My oldest starts kindergarten this year and I am nowhere ready for her to go. Enjoy the peace and quiet, I hear it can be deafening at times

It's been a couple of weeks now and I admit, I am still trying to get used to the quiet during the day. I miss having my little sidekick around to "help" me with my chores.
Sounds like you are "in the trenches" of motherhood as a friend of mine would say. Keep fighting the good fight. The day when they are all in school comes all too soon. :)
