Broken Hearts Mended

This is a series I am doing for the month of October. If you are new, you can start HERE.
Day 2

Thoughts on Joy:
As part of our mortal experience, all of us will have to deal with trials and tests that may cause us to feel burdened or overwhelmed by sorrow, stress or regret.

Part of Christ’s mission is to heal broken hearts. He came to wipe away our tears, not to ensure that we would never weep (see Revelation 7:17). He clearly promised, “In the world ye shall have tribulation” (John 16:33). (Camille Fronk Olson, "Be of Good Cheer: Choosing Happiness", Ensign, July 2011)

But then we are admonished to “be of good cheer”; Christ has overcome the world. He knows how to conquer sins, sorrow and burdens of all shapes and sizes and through His Atonement, our broken hearts can be healed and we can find our way on the road back to joy.

Today I found joy on my journey:
--By taking a minute to stand barefoot in the grass. The blue skies and 70 degree temperatures were balm to my spirit.
--By laughing
--By going outside to look at the moon and hearing the owl that lives in the woods across the street hooting.
--By preparing a lovely Sunday dinner of  roast chicken encrusted with herbs de Provence, rolls, mashed potatoes and lots and lots of fresh vegetables and then enjoying it with my family.

--By watching General Conference. It is a twice a year conference of our church where we get to listen to what the Lord has to say to us through our church leaders. It is always uplifting and inspiring. The music (generally provided by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir) moved me to tears on a couple of occasions. I found the performance of "I Believe in Christ" particularly beautiful.

 What brought you joy today?

P.S.   I have a couple orders of business that I neglected to address yesterday.
1.) I am doing this as part of a challenge that I found on The Nester's blog. There are tons of other people participating and writing for 31 days on the topic of their choice. You might want to check it out. There are lots of good ones.
2.) My plan is to share some thoughts on finding joy and then some thing(s) that brought me joy that day. I reserve the right to change my format if I find it isn't working for me.

Ah, that choir number was amazing! I loved that, too. Part of my joy was also in Sunday dinner -- but mostly because Garry made it!

Mmmm... I love wonderful family dinners... and I also love the list format of this post... a few weeks ago I came across an old journal of mine. In it, I used to write a little list everyday of 5 things that I was grateful for that day. It was great fun going back and reading it. Maybe I'll have to start doing that again!

I was able to go to church this morning, and that brought me joy. It was only the third time I have been able to go on a Sunday morning in over a year. Reason for joy!
Other joys from today: homemade apple crisp, snuggly daughter, talkative son, loving husband, soft bed when I was exhausted, coffee, and hot water for my shower.

Finding your blog brought me joy...as well as the kind comments you left on mine.

Your list reminded me of something that brought me joy on Saturday night. I woke in the middle of the night--which can be frustrating right now since better sleep means I'm less sick the next day. (I'm in my first trimester with my 4th child.) Then through my open window I heard an owl hooting. It was the first time I'd ever heard an owl in nature. And I was so grateful that I woke long enough to hear it hoot several times. You gotta love those unexpected joys!
