Children Teach Us Joy

This is a series I am doing for the month of October. If you are new, you can start HERE.

Day 4

Thoughts on Joy:
We took a walk to the playground today--my littlest boy and I. He asked me to push him on the swings and I happily obliged. He wanted to get down almost right away, but after I stopped the swing and helped him off, he looked at me and said, "You swing Mommy."

"Okay", I said. Why not? I situated myself on the u-shaped seat and gave myself a running start and then began pumping my legs.

When is the last time you had a good swing? For me it had been far too long. I had forgotten just how fun and exhilarating soaring up into the clear blue sky can be. I couldn't help myself. I had to yell "WHEEE!" and then "WOOHOO!"

Let me tell you, it felt marvelous and I never would have done it if my sweet boy hadn't encouraged me.

"Children teach us how to find joy even under the most challenging circumstances. Children haven’t yet learned to be depressed by concentrating on the things they don’t have. They find joy in what is available to them. . .
Simple, rejuvenating experiences surround us. They can be safety valves to keep the tension down and the spirit up. Don’t concentrate on what you don’t have or have lost. The Lord promised the obedient to share all that He possesses with them."(Richard G. Scott, "Finding Joy in Life", Ensign May 1996)

Today I Found Joy in My Journey:
--Swinging!
--Going to my son's cross country meet. Cross country meets are seriously underrated--they are so fun!
--Enjoying all the goldenrod in bloom right now.
--Looking through the family pictures that my friend Nicole took for us.
--Listening to my little guy talk to himself in a sweet little voice while he played pirates.

  What brought you joy today?

Last week, I went to the park with my Mom and my little guy. I went on the swings for the first time in ages. Such a wonderful feeling of freedom and nostalgia! I'm thinking that I might do it more often now. Oh, and I love the mustache picture too!
