My Miracle

Last year I read a blog post by one of my former English professors, Louise Plummer, called Caleb's Miracle. It stuck with me and I decided to put it to the test.

You need to read it before I go on or the rest of the post won't make as much sense. Read it here. It's short. Go ahead; I'll wait.
. . . . .

I have read this post probably a dozen times. It is my most favorite post anywhere ever. It helped to bring about my own miracle.

My husband was in school for almost all of the first fourteen years of our marriage. The last two years he has been doing a post-doctoral fellowship.  Our oldest son is in high school. We aren't spring chickens anymore.

We've been thinking for a couple of years now that it would be great if David could get a real professor job. We always knew that the post-doc was a kind of temporary thing anyway. We loved our home in Auburn, Alabama, but there were none of the right kinds of jobs available there. He started applying to jobs--lots of jobs all over the country--but no solid offers were coming in. We wanted to go somewhere that would allow David to pursue his love of teaching but where he could still do a little research as well.

Back in the fall of 2012 I wrote "David gets a job and we move to where our family will be happiest. Summer 2013" on a yellow post it note. I taped it to the side of my fridge. I read it every day.

In February my husband was offered a job. It was a great match. Now here I sit in central New York after moving across the country from Alabama a week ago. It is summer of 2013.

I can't help but believe that this is where our family will be happiest.

The Universe heard and answered.

Thank you, Jill. I, too, loved Caleb's miracle. I am the most blessed man on the planet to have such a wonderful family. You know that you are not my daughter-in-law, but my daughter, don't you? Again, thank you for sharing. Sorry, I didn't see this sooner, but I seldom get on, so it takes me some time to catch up.
